* I am happy to announce that we will be getting updates and information from Morgan Hedrick that will be worked into a column by Morgan. Below is the beginning of a fun filled summer of speedway from the midwest. Cheers RC Jones *

Lawrenceburg Motorcycle Speedway May 6, Opener
By: Morgan “Crank” Hedrick #52

The first Speedway Event in the Mid West for 2005 was held at the clay 1/8 mile in Lawrenceburg Indiana. It featured six Speedway riders for the night, some short trackers and a whole lot of go carts. Lawrenceburg is very smooth, very fast and extremely narrow.

Coy Mathews, a third year rider, who is absolutely fearless, was the stand out of the night. Coy was riding fast and smooth all night and no one could touch him. Joe Garrison and Joe Grey both suffered crashes early on in the second heat. Joe Garrison’s bike was too damaged to continue, and unfortunately Joe Grey; a very promising rider, went out for the night, and possibly the year with a wrist injury.
Barry Benkert Jr. looks promising as he starts his second full year of riding. It will be interesting to see how Barry Benkert and Joe Garrison handle the deep cushion at Indy this year.

More to come next week…
