Hi! my name is Karol and I'm a member of the internet speedway discussion
list...
You sent the message below some weeks ago, but I'd like to know if anyone
replied to you...
I live in Italy but I don't have the payTV so I can't see any speedway on TV
and I'd be interested in those tapes...
if anyone is taping any speedway meetings for you I'd like to know his name
to request those tapes also for me...
many thanks, Karol speedway@tin.it

>From the Sky Sports Website........
Not anything we didn't already know on the EL coverage, but interesting bit
about new equipment being used, AND the WTC being shown (first I'd heard of
it - apologies if this is old news).
What a step forward - hopefully this may even lead to more internationals
being covered if the WTC is a success, or maybe next winters Aussie pairs
competition if that gets off the ground....

THE 2000 SPEEDWAY PREVIEW
BRITISH ELITE LEAGUE SPEEDWAY BACK ON SKY SPORTS
SKY SPORTS viewers will experience the grit and drama of the cinder track
when the British Elite League returns to the screens on 18 May.
The Eastbourne vs Coventry fixture marks the start of over 20 weeks of live
coverage on Sky Sports, with every Elite League club visited at least once
in the first ten weeks of the season. Sky Sports will again be on-site every
week with a full outside broadcast including the 'drive-in' studio for
immediate post-race interviews. A new feature for the millenium season sees
the riders equipped with a device designed to give viewers on-screen lap
times, while air ships and pole-cams continue to offer a unique
perspective.
Jonathan Green presents live speedway with track experts including former
world champion Sam Ermolenko and Kelvin Tatum. Suzi Perry is the roving
reporter with commentary from Tony Millard and Peter Collins.
Sky Sports will also broadcast exclusive live coverage of six Grand Prix
featuring the cream of the world's riders beginning in Prague on 6 May, plus
the World Team Final in September. Details of both the Elite League fixtures
and the Grand Prix are as follows:
Saturday 6 May at 6pm on Sky Sports 2: Czech Grand Prix Jason Crump of Kings
Lynn and Australia, Tomasz Gollob of Ipswich and Poland and Mark Loram of
Poole and England are among the stars set to compete in the first grand prix
of the season in front of a packed house in Prague.
Thursday 18 May at 7.30pm on Sky Sports 1: Eastbourne vs Coventry The Sussex
Eagles have had their title aspirations boosted by the signing of Paul Hurry
from Oxford while Coventry Bees are currently on tenterhooks over the on/off
signing of the talented Lee Richardson from Poole.
Wednesday 24 May at 7.30pm on Sky Sports 2: Poole vs Peterborough The
meeting between last season's top two, who featured in a thrilling finale on
Sky Sports last September. With Poole Pirates beaten in the final heat at
Kings Lynn, Peterborough Panthers pipped them to the post by beating Belle
Vue at home.
Saturday 3 June: Swedish Grand Prix Thursday 8 June: Ipswich vs Coventry
After fading mid-season last year, Ipswich Witches, who feature top
internationals Tomasz Gollob (Poland) and Chris Louis (England), will be
hoping for more consistency this time around.
Wednesday 14 June: Kings Lynn vs Ipswich The Knights showed their ambition
by tempting away Elite League number one Jason Crump from neighbours
Peterborough, thus making up for the loss of the legendary Tony Rickardsson.
The men from Saddlebow Road are strongly tipped to improve on their best
ever finish of third last season
Wednesday 21 June: Oxford vs Belle Vue Senior riders like Australian Todd
Wiltshire will lead a young Cheetahs side into the new season. Look out for
the young Australian Kevin Doolan riding for the Belle Vue Aces.
Wednesday 28 June: Belle Vue vs Peterborough
alasdair.gerrie@virgin.netWednesday 5 July: Kings Lynn vs Oxford
Thursday 13 July: Peterborough vs Eastbourne Wednesday 19 July:
Wolverhampton vs Kings Lynn
The Wolves have signed Sky Sports' expert Sam Ermolenko from Hull to boost
their team.
Thursday 29 July: British Grand Prix
Wednesday 2 August: Danish Grand Prix
Sunday 17 September: World Team Cup Final
Saturday 23 September: European Grand Prix
Commenting on the new season, Sky Sports' Roger Moody said "After a lengthy
absence domestic speedway really burst back onto television screens last
season and it proved a big hit. We attracted new viewers every week
culminating with that thrilling night when we had cameras at Kings Lynn and
Peterborough. Last season proved that speedway is made for television."

Subject: Re: [speedway] Reading 52 Exeter 38
Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 23:25:34 +0100
Plop.
(Falls down in amazement)
Reading win a home meeting shock.
And I reckon that the bulk of the credit must go to Pat Bliss who gave the
entire team a massive rocket after the debacle at Exeter.
Reading were embarassed (and rightly so) by a shocking display and there
were a couple of noteably improved shows tonight that brought home the
bacon.
I am still less than convinced about Exeter away but a 52-38 win was
welcome.
Reading were even behind in this match and the Falcons fans in front of me
appeared convinced that an Exeter victory was on the cards - especially as
they led 8-4 after 2.
That would have been a catastrophe for Reading and would have reduced their
crowd to pitiful levels for the next few weeks to come.
Reading 52
A Castagna (2.3.3.3.3) 14
(A bike length down at the first turn in his first outing then a decent gate
but didn't lose Coles but thereafter vintage and unassailable stuff. Its
questionable whether he has turned the corner but its unquestionable that
this was a huge step in the right direction.
Won his last three at a canter)
P Clews (1'.1.3.1) 6+1
(Tremendous value - all action Clewsy was passing all the time and was also
continually fouling up at the gate. Highlight was a spectacular pass of Lobb
to win heat 8. Somewhat unlucky not to get by Appleto in heat 10 when the
local rider shut the gate on him almost causing a fall.)
P Morris (3.2.2.3) 10
(Only discovered his best bike in ride 4 and looked a different proposition
then dusting off Appleton. Struggled with his bikes until then having to
score poinrs from the back. A huge pass of Stephens allowed Marsh to pass
also in heat 3)
K Marsh (2'.1'.1'.1') 5+4
(A nightmare score average wise as the combined Racers total went over
45!!!!
But Kruis can't be faulted for effort at Smallmead and again had a gutsy and
quality return)
P Wester (3.3.3.2'.2') 13+2
(Debut maximum and solid gold. Dripping in class this was very impressive -
how on earth can he have been so easilly beaten at Exeter?
Winning the races he gated by a street there were two highlights - a
breathtaking outside run past Stephens and Appleton to win heat heat 7 and a
classy inside swoop by Coles in the last race to complete his max. No lasts
in his last wtwo rides this time and a Reading win. 'nuff said)
M Norris (1.0.0.2) 3
(Showed good application on a terrible bike. Bob Radford reckonned he was
making mistakes I thought he rode his heart out on a machine that wasn't fit
for the scond half. He did all the hard work to go inside Harris in heat two
but was just done for pace on the run up to the line. A good second in heat
14 with Eldridge beaten behind Marsh gave him a half decent score)
S Colvin (0.0.1.0) 1
(Also soooo slow - Reading really have to make changes somewhere at reserve.
Its stupid they have two decent riders on uncompetitive bikes. Only point
came when outpacing Eldridge in a highly creditable heat 8 show. Was another
outstripped by Harris later on - but I like Harris - he's a good talent.)
Exeter 38
M Simmonds (3.3.1'.Fx.Ef) 7+1
(Impressive early on dusting off Castagna in no uncertain terms. But when
the rain came down he never looked likely to do anything. Impressive from
the gate)
R Lobb (0.0.2) 2
(A little unlucky - beaten by Clews twice and Marsh. Looked a good deal
better than his Arena incarnation)
A Appleton (1.1'.2.2) 6+1
(Looked rather uncomfortable with the scud II Stephens - beat off Clews in
heat 10 in a creditable guest display but I rather fancy Gordon would have
done better)
S Stephens (0.2.0.3) 5
(Gate or bust Stephens looked rather a long way off the 10 point form that
had been claimed for him by the Sstar's Exeter scribe. Eventually won a
race - after leading every one? - in heat 14 when he comfortably beat
Norris.)
C Harris (2'.0.0.1') 3+2
(Took advantage of Reading's reserves mechanical flaws in impressive
fashion. A tidy rider and a fantastic prospect for the falcons Harris again
looked very good at Reading)
B Eldridge (3.2.0.F) 5
(The perennial thorn in Reading's side at last failed to make it count at
Reading. Massive heat 2 winner - then a creditable heat 4 second and after
that little idea in the deteriorating conditions)
Still far from convinced that Reading have turned the corner - but a win is
very welcome indeed - especially against a side that uterly humiliated them
only hours earlier!
Per and Armando look back on track - probably no coincidence that Adam
Shields was trialing in the second half and after a 360 looked very
impressive indeed.
I would imagine a repeat of last week would have seen him signed !
Reading will need to change their reserves despite both riders increasing
their averages.
I would fancy a look at Jon Underwood myself but I hear tonight that Oxford
have been refused permission to sign Jan Staechmann - can anyone confirm?
Nick
PS Nice to meet up with Paul again and meet Tina (she's real!)
