(Instead of plugging my own site for a change)surprise surprise ...I would
to give a mention to an excellent firm in the U.K., Re-run videos, i have
been dealing with them for some time now and Steve and Caroline have always
provided excellent customer service and support. Any order that is processed
is promptly fixed up and sent off usually arriving here in Oz usually within
7-10 days. With their speedy service i have been able to pretty keep upto
date with all the Kings Lynn matches home and some away matches. If anybody
else overseas are after good U.K. and International speedway videos that are
professionally produced and with the voice of Dave Lanning and familiar face
of Bryn Williams it actually feels like your trackside when you sit in front
of the 80cm. instead of 13,000 kms away. Though i would rather be watching
our domestic speedway in the normal Aussie heat of 35 degrees than the Brit
weather...sorry guys you keep your weather!!!

ESKILSTUNA =96 THE END
Smederna=92s Magnus Zetterstrom scored a 15-point maximum to win the
Eskilstuna Open Championship last Thursday (August 17). Runner-up was
Ornarna=92s Per-Ola Klasson ahead of Masarna=92s Niklas Aspgren. Sadly, Thursday
was also the day when it was definitely decided that speedway will be lost
to Eskilstuna. The town=92s socialist majority, backed by a couple of
communists, voted 45-32 in favour of the speedway stadium being demolished.
The loss of speedway to Eskilstuna is a massive blow for Swedish speedway.
The town has been a hotbed for speedway for more than half a century. Over
the years, most world class riders have visited the purpose-built
town-centre venue. Apart from the closure of the speedway stadium, plans
also include a multi-million facelift of the nearby football stadium.
Speedway is by far Eskilstuna=92s most polular entertainment. Despite poor
results, Smederna have this season had an average gate of nearly 3,000,
approximately 15 times more than the town=92s football team. Noise problems
are cited as the official reason for the decision to close the speedway
stadium, but plans to build houses on the site is perhaps the most important
factor. There have been massive protests against the redevelopment project
since the plans were first mentioned last winter, but all to no avail.
Despite being thrown out of town, Smederna will continue to operate. The
Blacksmiths will be forced to continue life at an obscure place known as
Grondal, a non-populated area in the deep forests, a long way out of town.
The 2000 season was originally intended to be Smederna=92s last year in
Eskilstuna, but the protests have delayed the move so much that the new
track is unlikely to be ready until 2002. As a result, Smederna will
probably be allowed to continue for one more season in Eskilstuna.

What a great meeting these two teams served up in front of another
big holiday crowd on the Isle of Wight.
You knew it was going to be something special in heat 3 when referee
Barry Richardson couldn't split Danny Bird and Andre Compton in the
tightest of finishes and declared a dead heat.
That gave Newcastle a one point lead which they maintained as
impressive Danes Jesper Olsen and Pedersen claimed victories in the
next two races.
Shields swooped past a startled Swales in heat 7 at the end of the
third lap and, with Compton retiring with mechanical problems the
resultant 4-2 gave the Islanders the lead
Most people were amazed when referee Barry Richardson ordered a
re-run of heat 8 after Darren Pearson slid off at the back with the
Islanders on a 5-1...which became a 4-2 in the rerun.
And then heat 10 - and what drama as firstly Ray Morton touched the
tapes and was put back off a 15 metre handicap.
His partner Richard Juul led from the start but Stuart Swales charged
underneath him exiting the second bend, Juul fell and to the IOW's
dismay (not to mention the rider himself!) he was excluded as the
prime cause of the stoppage.
So to the second re-run with Compton and Swales from the gate for the
Diamonds and solitary Islander Morton off the handicap.
Amazingly he reeled in the two Diamonds for a heat win that nobody =
could quite believe.
A 4-2 from Swain and Glen Phillips in heat 12 put the Islanders five
points, heat 13 was shared and then a very scappy start to the
penultimate race saw the Diamonds hit back with a 4-2 thus forcing a last heat decider.
Newcastle won the toss for gate positions but it made no difference
as man-of-the-match Morton muscled his way to the front on the first
bend and went on to win and secure a memorable victory for the homesters.
