2018 Central U.S. Speedway News
2018 Mid America
It has been a couple months since we have sent out a newsletter, and since we pay a monthly fee to Constant Contact, it seemed like as good as time as any to send out an update of the upcoming season. In this issue we will talk about the 2018 schedule, discounted pit passes and preferred parking options, upcoming indoor ice races, and LBR Films.
When Mid-America was originally built in 2008, we signed a five year lease on the property. Building a new race track is a risky proposition, but we did it knowing that people much smarter than us were predicting a recession was on the horizon. That Great Recession proved to be the second longest recession in US History, and somehow we managed to see growth every year, and 2018 marks the 11th season of racing at Mid-America. We saw several tracks and promoters and facilities come and go over the past ten seasons, but flat track is definitely making a comeback.
We have built a reputation for doing things different, and held several big races over the years focused on the larger displacement bikes. We are proud of the number of riders that started out on 65's and 80's and now hold professional licenses. One of the things that we failed to do, was to encourage the younger riders so that we could keep a steady pipeline of younger riders moving entering this great sport. We are not saying that the current group of youth riders are not fast, but we, along with the motorcycle industry as a whole, need to do more to attract younger riders into the sport, so that they are still riding and buying motorcycles forty, fifty, sixty years from now. With that said, and in following our motto of doing things differently, we are going to have a three round series within our 2018 series that will feature the future of the sport. We are calling it Mid-America Features the Future, and any rider that wins two of the four main events will receive a $100 bonus on top of the prize money for that nigh. Now on to the schedule....
The season will kick off on April 28th with our spring opener, the rain date for this event is May 19th. (Please note that we will run one or the other, but not both dates.) The next event is June 9th, and is round one of our Featuring the Future Series where the winning bike owner of 80-200 will receive $250. We need to note that most sanctioning bodies state that amateurs cannot be paid in cash. Therefore, we pay the winning bike owner in order to not jeopardize a riders amateur status.
The racing continues the following weekend with our Marion CO. Fair Race. We then take nearly a month off to recover from the fair, and then return on July 14th for Sr. 50+ Night where we pay a $100 bonus to the winner. July 21st is round two of our Featuring the Future Series with $250 going to the winning bike owner in the 65cc Class. The final round of the Featuring the Future Series is one week later on July 28th with a $100 bonus to the winning bike owner in 50cc Shaft, and $200 to the winning bike owner in 50cc Chain.
The action continues on Friday, August 3rd with a round of the AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Series. The action continues the following night on August 4th with our Speedway Shootout Invitational, all regular classes and the second night of the AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Series. August 11th in our Open Quad Night which is another first for us where we are putting up $500 to win the Open Quad Class, and Joe Stahl from JLS Motorsports is putting up an additional $500 to the winner. The MAS crew then get a much deserved week off after running six races in five weeks, but they return on August 25th for Vet 30+ Night where we will bonus the Vet 30+ winner $100.
September starts off with Super Sr. 60+ night with a $100 bonus to the winner, and a $50 bonus to the oldest winner starting the 60+ Main event. September concludes with a $100/cylinder bonus going to the winner of Vintage Heavy.
Next on the schedule is 250 Money Night on October 6th, with $500 going to the winner of the 250 Money class. October 20th is Vintage light night, and the 2018 season concludes on October 27th at our 10th annual Halloween race with $500 going to the winner of the Open bike class. The 2018 Awards Banquet will be two weeks later on November 10th at the Sunshine Bowling Center in Clermont, IN.
Reserved Parking and Season Pit Passes
We have 14 points paying events on our 2018 schedule. We are offering a VIP season pit pass for $110, (Youth passes are $55) which is a $140 value.
Once again, we will be offering reserved pit parking for the 2018 season. Vans and trucks with small trailers will be parked with their front bumpers facing the fence that runs between the pit entrance and the hill (rear of vehicle would be facing turn 3 and 4 wall. Longer vehicles would park on the other side of the fence facing the vans and trucks with small trailers. Cost is $100 for the season and includes a sign with your name and number in your choice of red, green, black or blue identifying your reserved spot. Please contact us to reserve your spot today.
It's currently 18 degrees in Indianapolis, but the indoor ice racing season will be starting in a little more than seven days. Some of the staff at Mid-America spend the winter riding in the Xtreme-International Ice Racing Series. This is a travelling series often running on both the east and west coasts, however the promoter will haul a riders bike at no charge if they commit to all rounds. There are three primary classes, Speedway, Open Bike, and Quad, with a mad dog or youth class added at select rounds. Typically the winner of the adult main event gets between $500 and $1000 depending on the city and local sponsors. If you cannot make all of the rounds, the series is in Peoria, IL on 1/17, St. Louis, MO on 1/27, and Danville, IL on 2/16. If you are interested, please see Jim Terchila, Clayton Criswell, or Colby Long and they can provide more info.
BR Films has been filming videos at each of the Mid-America events and also follows the XiiR.org series. Colby recent added a drone to his arsenal which immediately improved the quality of his already impressive videos. Be sure to follow him and the crew over the season at LBR Films and see if you made any of the videos.
