Janniro Wins Again
Story and Photos Michael Kirby
Ten-time AMA National Speedway Champion Billy Janniro picked up his third scratch main event and second in a row win of the 2022 Fast Fridays season. Janniro seems to figured out the tricky oval this season at Fast Fridays and was again perfect in the scratch program winning his heat, semi-final and the main coming away in this sixth week of the season as again the fastest man of the night. Janniro took advantage of his lane one draw and got a great gate. Louie Mersaroli out of lane four had a great race and was so close to Janniro it looked like he was almost pushing him to the finish line and finished in second place. Rees Todd was third and Bart Bast was fourth. Maybe he's preparing for the first round of the 2022 AMA National Speedway Championship Saturday June 25 in Bakersfield and the tough field he will be facing if he wants to win an 11th national championship. He looks ready for a great showing at the national.
What a race the handicap main event was. Timmy Dion's side motor cover came loose and oil began leaking on his exhaust pipe causing one heck of a lot of smoke and a crash happened in turn two. Rees Todd and Gino Manzares went down as Dion finished the race dragging a thick layer of smoke to the finish line. Blake Borello, riding through the smoke finished second and Louie Mersaroli was third.
Division II was won again for the second week in a row by Aidan McNutt. McNutt has really upped his game at Fast Fridays with some excellent riding. “I am really trying to ride better and I owe a lot of credit to my mechanic who has really dialed in the bike.” Marc Denniston was second and John Peters was third.
In his first full season at Fast Fridays, Everett Holmes picked up his second Division III main event. Holmes won the Division III main event in week one. Riding off the 10 yard line Holmes will be checking the dirt on the 20 yard line next week. Tim Rott fell hard and a restart was called and he was able to pull off a second place finish, and Cody Aker was third.
Chase Kangas won the Youth 250 Division main event. Darren Armbruster and Kangas raced hard all night against each other and the main event was close until Armbruster swung wide in turn one and Kangas took advantage of the misstep to take the lead. Armbruster was second and Catherine Moore was third. Jameson Hutchinson picked up another win in the Youth 150 Division to go with his win in week two. Riley Rearick was second and Jayce Preuss was third.
It was round three in the SOS Team Challenge. Team AR 17 Land & Tree came into round three after winning rounds one and two. The score going into round three was Team AR 17-21 points to Team SOS's nine points. In the first race Team AR 17 put Tyler Warren and Rees Todd against Team SOS's Bart Bast and Daniel Faria. Warren picked up the win and three points for Team AR 17. Bast was second and added two points to the Team SOS score and Faria add one more for a third place finish. In the second race Billy Janniro picked up three points with a win for Team AR 17 and Louie Mersaroli added two points to Team SOS's score. Rheten Todd added another point to Team SOS's score with a third place finish. The score for round three ended 6-6. Team SOS did not lose any ground but did not gain any either. The score settled with Team AR 17-27 and Team SOS-15. Team SOS has three more chances to gain points as the series continues July 8.
You don't want to miss next week when the Extreme Sidecars return to Auburn and Fast Friday's Motorcycle Speedway. These high energy racers fly around the track at break neck speed putting on a great show. See you there.
