A cold night of 10 degrees Celsius (50F) kept a lot of fans away, and they missed an exceptional evening of racing. Joanne Edwards was taken to hospital after a crash during warm up laps, and was the first of three more ambulance runs before the night was through. Len Dillon, the current Canadian Speedway Champion, (holds 13 Canadian titles) announced he has retired from racing. He provided his bike to Shawn Venables (raced for Hackney, Kestrels, Belle Vue, and Middlesbough in Britain), who traveled from British Columbia just for this event. Len started racing speedway in 1980 at Welland (the year I retired because I couldn't believe how fast the competition was getting! No wonder!) (editors note: 95/09/01 - Louis Fitch says the Austrians will be back next year with three more as well)

(1st lap Andy had the lead, Chris went wide into turn 3 (not done before or later by ANYONE this night) and was beside Andy through turn four. Andy, realizing he would be passed, straightened up for more traction, and drifted off the grove (10 feet from the wall) towards the wall. Chris was pinned against the wall and was carried by Andy the length of the front straight where Andy managed to pull away. Chris then tumbled the length of turn one against the wall, while his bike made for the infield. Chris broke a finger and cracked a rib, and required an overnight in hospital.)
