Annual Vintage Motorcycle Night
June 18, 1999 Paris Speedway
From: Kim Gregory and Duncan Luke luke99@idirect.com

'HOT DOG' Freddy Legault - Champion of the Night

'Hot Dog' Fred

The crowd was boosted by the annual vintage motorcycle display. An wide range of old favorites, most in showroom condition. This was the second night this season that we did not have a National Champion on the track. The competitors were evenly matched ( note the THREE way tie for points in Division 2 heats! ), making for many close races, PASSING, and some surprise finishes.

John Mercier did well to get two seconds in this fast field of veteran Division One riders. He often was the 'spoiler', in the right place, at the right time, stealing the groove. In heat 16, he left from gate 2, with Freddy on his left, Gary on his right, and all three of them on the same two feet of track round into turn two, where John and Gary finally went down. Freddy Legault was cheered to his victory by his many supporters in the crowd, and many remarked it was the finest they have seen him ride.

The handicap was one of the best races of the night. Gary Hesmer took an early lead, followed closely by Greg Comstock from (Wisconsin), then Greg dropped out with bike troubles. Byon Ambro held second until Fred Legault and Joe Heye snuck past.

John Cooper made a return to speedway, adding to the exciting racing in Division 3. Heat five was a good example of the passing, with Ryan Rainville moving from third to take the checkered flag. Jeremy Musson also surprised us after a fourth in his first heat, to take the win in two heats tonight! Check out his new sponsors.

Greg Comstock came well prepared, with his new Antigue-Jawa in flashy purple, and blasted past Gary Hesmer and John Mercier in the final Division One race. A close battle then began with Gary overtaking him before the checkered flag.
