Fast Fridays Cleans Up Auburn

Saturday, January 8, 2000

Fast Fridays Speedway motorcycle racing of Auburn California have adopted a section of Highway 49, on the north side of Auburn. At least once a month, drivers on this scenic highway which leads through the Gold Country up to historic Grass Valley and Nevada City will see Speedway racers, their families, and their fans playing their part in this community based activity.

The clean up operation kicked off this Saturday, January 8, 2000, with a dozen or so Junior Speedway riders and their families starting the worthy task, picking up and bagging the roadside litter. A plan is in place for a group to come out at least once a month for the next 2 years. After their hard work, the Junior Speedway riders were rewarded with a practice session at the Auburn Fairgrounds race track.

A large sign, at the side of the road recognizes their contribution. This really is a win-win situation for everyone concerned. As well as being an opportunity to help out in the community it presents our sport in a positive light.

Send copies of press release and photos to Andy Wilcox, Cycle News, Sacramento Bee and the AMA magazine.

The turn out was so good, we ran out of uniforms.

Eric Carrillo and Charlie Venegas are sponsored by LBZ. Before starting work Eric ensured that his sponsor's label was clearly displayed.

Dave Joiner gives a demo of how to use the collecting prongs.

Mark Carrillo models the standard uniform. Hat, gloves, safety glasses, vest and the collecting prongs.

Hopefully everyone driving past this sign will remember where to go every Friday night.

The City of Auburn gave us a carton of bags and told us there would be far more than we would need. We filled them all.

By the time the team had finished, there was a pile of bags every couple of hundred yards along the road.

After the clean up everyone headed down to the Speedway track for a practice session. Several of the Junior Speedway riders seem to be a lot faster than they were last season. Could the Sunday sessions at Lincoln be paying off for them?
