California Speedway
September 5, 2007 - Industry Speedway
By: Ryan Evans

Charlie "The Edge" Venegas warmed up for next week's track championship by winning his tenth main event of the season at Industry Speedway.

Venegas was in gate two and was ahead of the field entering turn one. Buck Blair found more traction exiting turn two and led down the back straight. Venegas attacked on the outside entering turn three and found an ample supply of dirt to provide enough traction to retake the lead at the end of lap one. Ryan Fisher used the inside to move past Blair as well, but the Colorado native didn't give up easily. Venegas continued to stretch his lead while Fisher and Blair slugged it out for second. Venegas was first to the checkered flag with Fisher holding off Blair for second. Ricky Wells finished fourth.
Eddie Castro started the heats by taking an early lead before Blair used the outside to pass him and hold on for the win. Tommy Hedden made the trip from Northern California and beat Jimmy Fishback for his first win. Fisher held off Shawn McConnell and Wells for his first win. Venegas beat Michael Hull and Bobby Schwartz to end the first round.

The second round began with Wells beating Schwartz for his first win. Fisher led the next heat before Castro and then Fishback both went by on the third lap and the results remained unchanged after that. Hedden made it two in a row while Blair went from last to second with some inspired outside passing. McConnell impressively held off Venegas to win the final race of round two.

Venegas started the final round by beating Fishback. Blair used the outside to pass McConnell and earn his second win. Wells beat Castro and Hull for his second straight win. Fisher handed Hedden his first defeat in the final heat race.

Blair won the first semi with Wells following him into the main by finishing second. Venegas and Fisher finished one-two in the second semi to complete the main event field.

The first attempt to run the Consolation ended with Fishback spectacularly going over backward. Fishback injured his shoulder in the crash and lied across the crashwall while his father popped his shoulder back into place. Castro won the restart.

The Second Division Main Event ended in turn two when all four riders went down. Philip Harmatiuk and Eloy Medellin got the worst of it with both ending up against the fence. Both were able to get up and restart. Vince Giamformaggio got the best start but Harmatiuk went by and never looked back on his way to the win. Giamformaggio finished second, Medellin was third, and Kerry Sorensen finished fourth.

Steve Leffler and Max Eddy battled for the lead in the Third Division Main Event for two laps before Leffler secured the lead at the end of the second lap. Leffler held on from there to take the win. Scott York finished second, Eddy was third, Rick Fritch finished fourth, Aimiris Santana was fifth, and Robert Glamuzina was credited with sixth.

Russell Green had to hold off the hard-charging Austin Novratil to win the Youth First Division Main Event. Richard Crocker finished third.

Braydan Galvin defeated Eloy Medellin III to win the Youth Second Division Main Event for the seventh time this season.

Lexi Santana was victorious in the Pee Wee Main Event with Bryson Galvin finishing second and Nathan Remington finishing third.

Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen led all four laps en route to victory in the Sidecar Main Event. Scott and Shawn Driggers finished second, Dale Facchini and Matt Davis were third, Brian Motis and Loren Thurston finished fourth, and Tommy Thornton and Pat Grames were credited with fifth.

Next week is the final event on the 2007 Industry Speedway calendar, the 2nd annual Track Championship.
