Harley Show and Shine with Harley Night Racing
July 22, 2009 - Industry Speedway
By: Ryan Evans

California State Champion Charlie “The Edge” Venegas won his third main event of the year on Harley Night at Industry Speedway.

Venegas started in gate one and entered turn one alongside Jimmy “The Little Animal” Fishback. The two riders bumped in the corner with Venegas garnering the lead and Shawn McConnell sneaking under Fishback for second. Venegas led the down the back straight while Fishback charged back under McConnell entering turn three and the resulting contact left McConnell on the ground. The green light stayed on and by the time everyone avoided the fallen rider the leader was long gone. Venegas cruised the rest of the way for victory, Fishback finished second, “Fast” Eddie Castro was third, “Flyin” Mike Faria finished fourth, and McConnell was fifth.

Fishback kicked off the heats by getting his first win of the evening. Austin Novratil led the second heat for nearly two laps before falling and handing the victory to Russell Green. Venegas ended round one with a win over Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz.

Faria started round two with a victory over Youth National Champion Brad Pappalardo. Venegas made it two wins in a row by defeating Fishback in the next race. McConnell finished round two by beating Castro for his first win.

McConnell began the final round by handing Venegas his only defeat of the evening. Fishback beat Castro for his second win in event 14. Faria closed out the heats by beating Novratil. Green beat Pappalardo in a runoff for the last spot in the semis after an excellent battle between the two teenagers.

Venegas got the better of Fishback in the first semi, but both moved on to the main event. Faria and McConnell finished one-two in the second semi to transfer to the main. Castro won the Last Chance to book his place in the main.

Butch Waymire led the Second Division Main Event for two laps before Joey Holt charged underneath him for the lead. Holt ran away from there and was first to the checkered flag. Waymire held on for second, Tim McGrath finished third, Chris Thomas was fourth, and Bubba Vazzana finished fifth.

Chris Jones, usually a sidecar passenger, tried two wheels and led the Third Division Main Event before falling in turn four, which collected Rod Requejo and brought out the red flag. Jones elected not to restart. DeWayne Stark led the restart, but Brad Moreau passed him the second time down the back straight. Moreau never looked back from there and collected the win. Stark was second, Ron Mongenel finished third, Rick Huspek was fourth, Requejo was fifth, and Jones was credited with sixth.

Hayley Perrault led the Youth Main Event for over three laps, but a last corner maneuver by Nicky Reimer allowed him to grab the victory. Perrault had to settle for second, Jared Madrid finished third, and Michael Wells was fourth.

Reimer was less dramatic in the Pee Wee Main Event as he took the lead on lap two and led the rest of the way for the win. Nick Varner finished second, Victoria Matthews was third, Wells finished fourth, and Wyatt Cameron was fifth.

Defending National Champions Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen defeated Gerard Jackson and Dave German to win the Sidecar Main Event.
