AUBURN, CALIFORNIA, September 3, 2010

Maybe it was because it was the last night to accumulate points to gain a prized spot in the track championship or just that the riders are cruising into the twilight of the 2010 Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway season. But they were all on fire Friday night at the Gold Country Fairgrounds with an aggressive style riding not seen all year long. A series of on track mishaps brought down a dozen or more racers in some very dangerous crashes. Even Billy Janniro went down hard after a nudge from Louis Kossuth in a heat race. Daniel Farina and Greg Hooten collided and fell, and Cody Ciciarelli hit the dirt real hard, taking a precautionary ambulance ride to the hospital to be checked.

Sixteen Division I riders and eight each Division II and Division III riders are vying for the top spots in their respective divisions in next week’s Fast Friday’s Track Championships. Going into Friday night’s meeting Billy Janniro led Bart Bast in Div. I points with 2051 to Bast’s 1904, with Tommy Hedden right behind with 1819. Division II points leader Richard Fehrman has 643 and is trailed by Michael Achilles with 583. Chris Popanz was only 6 points ahead of Glenn Scott in Division III as of last week.

Charlie Venegas was on a tear Friday night picking up his third consecutive Div. I scratch main event win. Venegas also won the Challenge Elimination Series Championship, which whittled five riders down to Janniro and Venegas in a final two lap, who can get the best gate runoff, with Janniro. Janniro won the Div. I handicap main event, but was again absent from the scratch main event. Bart Bast was second again this week in both the Div. I scratch main and handicap main events adding more points to his total. Bryan Yarrow finished third, and Alex Marcucci finished the scratch main event fourth. Bryce Starks was third, and Alex Marcucci was fourth in the handicap main event.

In Division II Tom Fehrman was first, David Fonts was second, and Billy Parino was third. Division III was won by John Williams, John Peters was second and Glenn Scott was third. Ryan Vaughn topped the youth division.

Next week’s exciting program will include the 2010 Fast Friday’s track championships and will bring the final appearance of the exciting, popular sidecar teams putting on a thrilling program for Fast Friday’s fans.
