Costa Mesa Speedway, CA, USA - August 17, 2019

National Champion Billy “The Kid” Janniro continued his 2019 dominance of Costa Mesa Speedway by winning the Scratch Main Event in front of a packed house on Harley Night.

Previously unbeaten “Mad” Max Ruml had his night end on a sour note by touching the tapes and getting himself excluded in the Scratch Main Event. This left Aaron Fox in gate one, Austin Novratil in gate three and Janniro in gate four. When the tapes went up in was Janniro who was first off the line and he trapped his two opponents entering turn one. Fox got the better of Novratil and took up the chase behind the leader. Any thoughts of forcing a mistake were futile though. Janniro led all the way to the finish, Fox was second, Novratil finished third, and Ruml was credited with fourth.

Janniro opened the heats with a win ahead of Fox. Ruml defeated Sebastian “Big Daddy” Palmese in event two. Novratil beat Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz in event three. Manzares held off Jason Ramirez to end the first round with a win.

The second round started with Janniro beating Ramirez for his second win. Ruml passed Fox to earn his second win of the night. Novratil made it two for two by beating Castro. Manzares made it two straight wins and ended round two with a victory ahead of Palmese.

Janniro began the final round with his third win ahead of Brad Sauer. Ruml beat Ramirez for his third straight win. Novratil beat Fox in the next heat. Manzares closed out the heats by beating Castro. This meant four racers had perfect scores after the heats.

Ruml remained perfect by winning the first semi with the previously unbeaten Novratil joining him after finishing second. Fox made the dreaded gate three work and beat the two other undefeated racers, Janniro and Manzares into turn one. He led all the way to the finish with Janniro also transferring to the main while a disappointed Manzares was done for the evening.

Lawrence McNutt and Harold Hartke battled for the lead through turns one and two of the Second Division Main Event. Sammy Tetrault snuck up behind the two of them and took the lead as they entered turn three. He was the front for two laps until “Gentleman” Jake Isaac charged underneath as they took the white flag. Isaac held on throughout the last lap and took home the victory. Tetrault finished second, McNutt was third, and Hartke finished fourth.

Tyler Moszer led all four laps en route to victory in the Third Division Main Event. Mark Fillebrown was second, Dan Wensloff finished third, and George Yates was fourth.

It took two attempts but that couldn’t deter National Champions Joe Jones and Josh Flammia from winning the Sidecar Main Event. Dillon Osborne and Ashley Gibbons were second, Robert Curry and Laurie Curry finished third, and Kevin Holman and Shannen Hennessey were fourth.
