2019 Junior Kurtz Memorial Cup - Industry Racing, CA, USA - August 14, 2019

“Mad” Max Ruml made a fantastic last-lap pass to complete a flawless performance and win the fourth annual Junior Kurtz Memorial Cup at Industry Racing.
National Champion Billy “The Kid” Janniro started in gate two, led the field into turn one and clamped down on Ruml who had started in gate one. Janniro continued to lead through lap one but Ruml was able to get himself into second and make a bid for the lead. The positions remained unchanged as they took the white flag but Ruml then made his move to the outside. He found plenty of traction in the cushion and propelled himself around Janniro on the back straight. He had plenty of momentum to carry himself to first at the finish. Janniro had to settle for second, Aaron Fox was third, and Gino Manzares finished fourth. The win made Ruml the first two-time winner of the Junior Kurtz Memorial Cup.

The evening commenced with Manzares defeating defending Junior Kurtz Memorial Cup winner Austin Novratil. Janniro beat Tim Gomez in event two. Ruml kept Fox at bay to end the first round with a win.

Fox beat Manzares to start the second round. Janniro used the outside to take the victory ahead of Brad Sauer while Novratil’s evening came to an end with an engine failure. Ruml defeated Gomez to finish round two.

Fox started the final round of heats by beating Dylan Black. Manzares defeated Gomez for his second win. The final heat was a battle of the unbeaten with Ruml beating Janniro.

Ruml romped to his fourth straight victory in the first semi with Manzares following him into the main. Janniro and Fox finished one-two in the second semi to also make the main.

Gomez was victorious in the Scratch Consolation. Sebastian “Big Daddy” Palmese finished second, Black was third, and Sauer was credited with fourth.
David Lynch was awarded the victory in the Second Division Main after a red flag brought the race to a halt on the final lap. Mike Miller was second, Kevin Fiore finished third, and Rudy Laurer was credited with fourth.

David Newsham made the best start in the Third Division Main Event and appeared to have the main event victory in his grasp as he took the white flag. Disaster struck in turn one, when he fell down. The crash brought out the red flag. The victory was awarded to Dennis Osmer, Tyler Moszer was second, Mark Fillebrown finished third, and a heartbroken Newsham was credited with fourth.

Slater Lightcap led all four laps en route to victory in the Junior 250 Main Event. Wilbur Hancock finished second, Luke Whitcomb was third, and Andrew Russell finished fourth.

Max Anderson started at the front of the five-racer Mini 150 Main Event and led the field through lap one. Anderson also led the second lap but Jose “Nitro” Navarrete went past him on lap three. Navarrete’s lead only lasted to the next lap as Levi “Cowboy” Leutz went underneath him as they entered turn one. Leutz never looked back from there and was first to the checkered flag. Navarrete came home second, Owen Williams finished third, Anderson was fourth, and Nick Dunn finished fifth.

Ace Kale and Anthony Hernandez made the best start in the Sidecar Main Event and led through the first two laps. They were primed for an upset victory but those hopes were dashed on the third lap. National Champions Joe Jones and Josh Flammia dived under the leaders as they entered turn three and snatched the lead. The held on through the final lap to earn the victory. Dillon Osborne and Ashley Summers also passed Ace Kale and Hernandez to get second, a disappointed Ace Kale and Hernandez were third, and Kevin Kale and Tracy Gallagher finished fourth.
