SKYLER GREYSON UPDATE

Doug and Janie Greyson released the following update:

Skyler went home last week and is currently receiving therapy at his home. He will soon begin outpatient therapy at a facility close to his home four days a week, six hours per day. His therapy is expected to last at least a year.
He is walking around and is able to go up and down the stairs at his home. He has also been playing his guitar again. His neck brace will be coming off very soon, but he will have to wear his back brace at least two more months. Skyler has a tough road ahead of him, but he improves both physically and cognitively every day which is very encouraging.
The Greysons are comfortable enough with Skyler's condition to extend a public invitation to anyone who wishes to visit Skyler to feel free to do so. If you plan to visit Skyler, it is recommended that you contact Doug at (949) 813-5400 to verify if and when Skyler will be home.
The Greyson Family also wanted to express their gratitude to the speedway community for their thoughts, prayers, love, and donations throughout the last month. They have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that everyone has contributed to Skyler and the family and are very thankful for everything and to everyone who has helped them during this past month.

SKYLER GREYSON SERIOUSLY INJURED

U.S. National Under 21 Champion Skyler Greyson was seriously injured in a crash during the main event at the Fourth of July event in Victorville. Greyson was airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center where he is currently recovering from head injuries.
Industry Speedway has designed a special Skyler Greyson t-shirt that will be available no later than the California State Championship on July 15. The t-shirts will be sold for $20 each and all the profits will go to the Greyson family.
Anyone who is interested in buying a t-shirt can contact Kelly Inman via email at Industryspeedway@yahoo.com or via fax at 714-901-2631. Please include the quantity and the size(s).

JAY GIANETTI PASSES AWAY
September 23, 1961 - April 21, 2006

It is with much sadness that I share the news that my good friend Jay Gianetti (#22) passed away Friday, April 21 at 1:05 in the afternoon after losing his battle with brain cancer.
I thank everyone who has offered prayers and support throughout his illness and who supported his benefit race at Maelys.
I have posted the information in regards to his memorial service if anyone would like to attend. It is in Fullerton on May 6th at 1:00 which is Opening Day for Costa Mesa, but early enough in the day so that you can still get to the races on time.
If you have any question please feel free to contact me,
Thanks,
Shawn McConnell

2006 Gumball Rally

February 18 & 19
Perris Raceway

From: Billy Hamill
The Gumball Rally is back!
In 1983, Ken Maely introduced the Gumball Rally. It was an event specifically designed for the Junior Speedway riders, who previously had only been used as half-time entertainment for the "Big Boys." It was set up with a championship format and allowed the juniors the opportunity to show their stuff. The chance to get five races in a day was invaluable to those kids.
The last Gumball Rally was held out at Maely's Ranch in 2004. Unfortunately, the venue closed due to his passing.
Well, guess what? It's back, Baby!
Thanks to the good people at Perris Raceway (Jerry Litton and Freddie Edwards), we once again have a track to carry on the tradition of the Gumball Rally.
Mark your calendars for the weekend of February 18-19.

Below are the profiles on the Conference League riders that are coming over in January to meet the Dream Team.

Here are the bios and links to their home team websites for the riders coming over from Britain to face our Dream Team for some practice in January.

There are 3 16 year olds, one 17, two 18 and one 20.

Lewis Bridger - Weymouth Wildcats
Position\Grading: Heat Leader. Number 3. Grade 2
Nationality: English
Age: 15 Born: November 4 1989
Birthplace: Hastings
Middle name: Alan
Height: 1.65m Weight: 50kg
Former British clubs: None

Summary: Entering his first season as a Conference League rider and is expected to turn a few heads, according to team boss Brian White.

Did you know? As well as speedway, Lewis also takes part in motorcross, super moto and road bike racing.

Trevor Heath - Mildenhall Tigers
Born: 21 March 1989, Cuckfield, West Sussex
2004: Sheffield (CT): M-1, R-4, P-2, B-0, T-2, Ave-2.00

Trevor has progressed his way into the team with some steady performances after making his debut for the Fen Tigers at Wimbledon on 25 May.

A 16 year-old who's only previous appearance came for Sheffield in the Conference Trophy at Wimbledon last year, he also turned out in three of the six inaugural British Under 15 Championship rounds during 2004.

Although on a reserve grading 2, Trevor has found himself more often than not in the main body of the team at either 2 or 4 and has acquitted himself well against a better standard opposition.

With time and fixtures under his belt Trevor will continue his improvement
and come an integral part of the Fen Tigers team.

Chris Johnson - Rye House Raiders
(6 point grade)
born in Chichester, Sussex on 13 October 1987

The big man of the team at 6'2", Chris started last term in the Premier League with the Isle of Wight, and was unfortunate to be cut in favour of Ulrich Ostergard by being "in the wrong place at the wrong time". Oh, the dreaded word "averages". A near 8 point average with the Swindon Sprockets, plus a place in Pete Oakes' new Academy, helped make amends. As for 2005, in addition to his key role for the Raiders, he will have another well deserved shot at the Premier League courtesy of Reading.

Luke Priest - Stoke Spitfires
Born: 18 June 1985

Luke started speedway at Sheffield's training track and he also rides for the Sheffield Prowlers in the Conference Trophy. So far this year he has made his ice speedway debut (at Telford) and been given a reserve spot in the Premier League Riders Championship.

James Purchase - Mildenhall Tigers
Born: 21 October 1987, Southampton, Hampshire
2004: Swindon - M-11, R-43, P-34, B-6, T-40, Ave-3.72

17 year-old James joins Mildenhall after successfully having his grading figure downgraded from 4 to 2 and thus allowing him to compete for a Fen Tigers reserve berth.

The Southampton-born rider appeared for Swindon last season, averaging 3.72, marginally lower than the 3.90 average he sustained from riding 9 fixtures for Peterborough in 2003. Wayne Swales stated it was a bargain capture for a reserve with two years experience and James will battle it out with Scott Campos and Bevan Gilbert-Jarrett for the no.6 and 7 team mplaces.

Last season James's best scores came on the Sprockets' travels, 6+1 and 5 at Oxford and Armadale respectively. But he outscored those points the year before with the Pumas, a career-best 9+1 came at Newport and was swiftly followed the next fixture with 7+2 against Carmarthen in a match raced at King's Lynn.

2005 with the Fen Tigers represents James's best chance to show the sportwhat he can do with more fixtures and riding in a more competitive team than he's had before.

Previous clubs:
Swindon (CL), King's Lynn (CT), Oxford (CL), Peterborough (CL & BLC)

Lee Smart - Mildenhall Tigers
Born: 5/04/88, Swindon, Wiltshire
2004: Mildenhall: M-41, R-210, P-350, B-47, T-397, Ave-7.65

Smarty returned to Mildenhall on 22 May as the new heat leader promised to the fans after he was forced to leave Weymouth as they switched their race-nights from Thursday to Friday, clashing with his home meetings with Somerset in the Premier League.

He rejoins the club where he was one of the most successful riders of last season's Fen Tigers squad that swept the Conference League board, a star reserve averaging 7.65 from 41 appearances and scoring many high double-figure hauls including a match-winning 18 points in a crucial league win at Stoke.

A blistering start to the season with the Wildcats, 3 maximums including one at Wimbledon and a 10.66 average from 5 appearances, makes him a steal middle-order grade 6 signing and regarded as a powerful heat leader.

He knows the track, he knows the fans and the signing of Lee can only boost his and the Fen Tigers season to bigger and better things.

Previous clubs: Weymouth, Swindon (CL), Stoke (CT)

Shane Waldron - Weymouth Wildcats

I couldn't find a bio on him but apparently, he is 15 or 16, broke his wrist and dislocated his shoulder about a year ago and has the ability to score a lot of points in a meeting.
