Bryan Yarrow scored a double main event victory Saturday in his first meeting at Costa Mesa since returning from the World Under 21 Qualifiers.
Yarrow started the Scratch Main from gate five and beat everyone to turn one but Chris Manchester, Chris Kerr, and Buck Blair came together in turn one and went down. A full restart was ordered and Yarrow got the jump on the field again and led down the back straight. Manchester gave chase and settled in behind Yarrow and waited for a mistake. Yarrow would not oblige as he calmly held the lead the entire way to claim his first Costa Mesa Scratch Main victory. Manchester was second, Bobby Schwartz finished third, Blair was fourth, and Kerr finished fifth.
Dario Galvin started from the 10 yard line and began the Handicap Main at the front of the field. Yarrow, not satisfied with just one victory, cut through the field and was in second on lap two before a crash in turn one the next lap brought a halt to the race. The staggered restart placed Galvin in front and Yarrow 10 yards back with six laps to go. Galvin's lead lasted until turn three when he drifted wide and allowed Yarrow to blast into the lead. Yarrow stretched his lead with each lap and cruised to the checkered flag and complete his double victory. Mike Faria was second, Manchester finished third, Kerr was fourth, and Eddie Castro finished fifth.
The five-rider challenge race was brought back and was sponsored by Specialized Powder Coating who crafted a beautiful trophy that would be given to the winner. The first one-lap race eliminated Castro. The second race produced a close battle at the back with Schwartz narrowly avoiding elimination. Faria was the next to go leaving Manchester and Schwartz for the two-lap battle. Manchester gated quickly from the outside and held off Schwartz to win the challenge.
Brian Starr used a quick start from gate two to grab the lead in Support Main and he fought off Dale Facchini's race-long challenge to earn his second win of the year. Steve Murray was third, Rudy Laurer finished fourth, and Rick Valdez was fifth.
Mark Sincavage quickly moved past the front-yardage riders then ran away with the victory in the Support B Main Event. Mike Boyle was second, Steve Dziadus, Sr. finished third, Jim Lavender was fourth, Mark Skeels finished fifth, and Kim Stevens was sixth.
Dominic Manzares held off Broc Nicol to win the Pee Wee Main. Gino Manzares won the Youth Second Division Main with Joey Holt coming home second, Dylan Black was third, and Chad Hoyt finished fourth. Jason Ramirez won the Youth First Division Main, Ricky Valdez was second, and Austin Novratil finished third.
