Perris Raceway1205 Burton Road Speedway Broc Nicol Wins Star Studded November Race at Perris!
California's year round venue at Perris delivered another blockbuster as several big names came out to ready themselves for next month's FIM / AMA North America Final World Championship round. The speedway portion of the show coheadlined with the 'Hooligan National Shootout,' run to acknowledge the growing 'Hooligan' class of modified Harley and Indian dirt trackers that has been part of the rapid growth seen at Perris in the last 12 months. The Division1 speedway show reunited Nicol and Luke Becker, both who have been away racing in Europe and returnee Austin Novratil with local stars Max Ruml, Dillon Ruml and October winner Russell Green. The Division 1 show had 10 entries but the program format had the big guns continually meeting to deliver good racing all night long. Each rider had four heats with the top 2 in points getting seeded to the Main and the next 4 in a Last Chance run off for the last places in the final. Max Ruml led home Russell Green to win heat 1 with Dillon Ruml being a faller. Heat two saw Novratil out trap Becker. Becker however reeled in Novratil and made an inside pass to win. Heat 3 saw Dillon Ruml get valuable points on the board with Nicol coming in second ahead of Tyson Talkington and David Hancock. Becker went two for two in heat 4, heading home Max Ruml and the impressive Chance Grove. Novratil and Green had a close duel in heat 5 with Novratil coming out on top. Heat 6 with an epic, Becker going three for three whilst Nicol did one of his famous outside charges to relegate Dillon Ruml to third on the line. October winner Green kept Nicol at bay in heat 7, whilst Austin Novratil moved up to 8 points with a crucial defeat of Max Ruml in heat 8. After bike attrition ended Grove's night early, all 8 remaining contenders had their last ride in round 5. Becker completed his maximum in the heats by leading home Novratil (who would join him as the second automatic qualifier in the final) and Dillon Ruml in heat 9. Nicol recorded his first win in heat 10, leading home Green whilst Max Ruml pulled up early with an engine failure. The consolation was only a 2 rider affair with Talkington winning over Hancock in a closely contended race. Nicol recorded his second win of the night in the last chance, with Max Ruml coming second to also qualify for the Main. Green in third and Dillon Ruml in 4th were eliminated. The LCQ was worthy of a main event billing in its own right. All eyes were on the final with all riders being genuine contenders for the win. After a tight first turn Nicol emerged in the lead from Becker and Novratil. Becker quickly held a tight inside line coming out of turn 4 and they crossed the line side by side but Nicol nosed ahead going into turn 1. Becker locked up slightly allowing Novratil, who was inches way, into second. Novratil then chased after Nicol with Becker also coming back into the hunt. On the last lap Novratil's engine gave way to promote Becker back to second. He pursued Nicol but the Sheffield Tiger was the deserved winner of a tremendous battle. Division Two featured 8 riders, with two heats per rider, a Last Chance and a Main. Joey Donaldson top scored winning both of his heats with determined charges from the back, no less. Hayley Perrault & Rohn Zellner won the other heats with fast improving Kevin Fiore taking the Last Chance win. The final saw girl power prevail with Perrault getting a great start and leading to the chequered. Zellner in second fell on the last lap, promoting Donaldson to second and Brad Moreau to third. Beachball Steve Brown was undefeated in third division. Justin Almon won both 150 Mini heats but in what is likely his last 150 race before he moves up to 250s, a mechanical fault hit in the Main with Levi Leutz, who was already ahead at the time, getting his second Main win in a row. Ryder Schultz won all Pee Races with Billy 'The Goat' Cano being the stock bike winner. Though Perris has no off season per se, 2018 ends with a humongous event on December 8th as World Championship Speedway returns to North America. 16 of America's best riders will compete in the reinstated AMA / FIM North American Final. The top places on the night will earn riders invites to the 2019 Speedway Grand Prix Series Qualifying rounds. There will also be an early show at 4pm for all other divisions with the main show commencing at 7pm. Track co-promoter Chris Ackerman announced the first ten riders at intermission; Billy Janniro, Dillon Ruml, Max Ruml, Broc Nicol, Luke Becker, Gino Manzares, Russell Green, Austin Novratil, Aaron Fox and (pending logistics) Ricky Wells. The remaining 6 places will be announced around 17th November.
