Sidecars Return - Janniro Doubles Up
AUBURN, CALIFORNIA, August 19, 2022

Ten-time AMA National Champion Billy Janniro has really hit his stride at the Fast Friday's Motorcycle Speedway. Friday night in Auburn at the Gold Country Fairgrounds Janniro had a first this season winning the handicap main event and two races later winning the scratch main event becoming the fastest man of the night in both divisions.

In the handicap division Janniro had to really work for his win. Third in his heat race and transferring to his semi-final he finished second, but good enough to get to the main. After missing a four-rider crash in turn one and penalized 10 yards back to the 50-yard line on the restart Janniro had a battle on his hands in the main event. First, working to the front from the 50-yard line is not easy then to get there and face race leader Tyler Warren in a tight two lap race pulling head of Warren at the last turn for the win. Janniro also picked up another first as the first rider to win the handicap main event off the 40-yard line this season or in his case off the 50- yard line with the penalty. Warren was second with a fantastic race, Timmy Dion was third.

In the scratch program the story was a little different for Janniro. He won his heat race and was second in his semi-final race to move on to the scratch main event. Out of lane three Janniro faced again Warren in lane one, Gino Manzares in lane two and Rheten Todd out in land four. From the get-go as the tapes went up it was Manzares and Janniro that got the best gates, and the race was on. Janniro had the lead though barely and held on against Manzares for the four laps taking the checkered flag and the win. Manzares was second, Warren was third and Todd was fourth. The win was Janniro's seventh scratch main even win for the season and his third in a row.

Making their fourth appearance and last before the AMA Sidecar National Championship on September 3 at Fast Fridays, the Extreme Sidecars roared into the McCann Stadium. Eight teams made up round four and ran a program of six heat races, four teams in each heat race scoring points to make the final. The top three scoring teams after the heat races automatically transferred to the main event and the other teams had a chance to fill the last spot with a win in the last chance qualifier race.

The teams of Robert Curry and Laurie Curry, Smylie Kinne and Chuck Heider and Wade Boyd and Eric Lindauer all ended with eight points and took the first three spots in the final. In the last chance qualifier, the team of Lawrence McNutt and Dana Miller came out on top and took the last spot. It was a tight race from the gate but when the dust settled Kinne and Heider took the checkered flag.

The Division II main event was won by Marc Denniston. It was the second Division II main event win for Denniston this season. John Peters was second and Lawrence McNutt was third. Division III was topped by Jim Sanders. Fairly new to speedway racing at Fast Fridays Sanders had a great night winning his heat race then transferring to the main event for the win also. Mike Newnham was second and Cody Aker was third. It was Sanders second trip to the winner's podium so far this season.

In the Youth 250 division it was Charlie Trana coming out on top again winning his ninth Youth 250 main event. Trana outpaced Chase Kangas and Levi Leutz in the main event. Kangas was second and Leutz was third. The Youth 150 A division was won by Fast Friday's newcomer Eidan Steinbrecher. On his first night at Fast Fridays and coming from a motocross background Steinbrecher won all his hear races and the A main event. Jayce Preuss was second and Riley Rearick was third. The Youth B main event was won by Matthew Wright, second was Jameson Hutchinson and Wesley Rearick was third. Wright had second and first place finishes in his heat races then on to the main event win.

Just a reminder that starting next week August 29 Fast Fridays will move to Saturday events for the remainder of the season starting with the Fast Fridays Track Championships, the SOS Team Challenge Final and the Pee Wee 50cc championship all on the 29th.
