In the third of their five round series the Extreme Sidecars returned to Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway at the Gold Country Fairgrounds to a packed house. The weather was hot and the racing equally sizzling. Along with a great program of speedway racing the sidecars teams put on another great show with their roaring 1000cc three wheeled motorcycles. Auburn fans just love these speed demons and the hot evening cooled to just perfect for a fantastic night of racing action in the McCann Stadium.

Billy Janniro added another notch to his season tally in the scratch program this season at Fast Fridays with his sixth main event win in nine weeks of racing. Janniro looking in fine form used the inside and outside of the track to keep Charlie Venegas in check. Venegas, back just last week after a broken collarbone has kept him sidelined, was on fire. Venegas also lost to Janniro in their scratch heat race but he transferred and won his scratch semi-final in convincing style.

In the scratch main event Venegas again came up against the reigning AMA Speedway National champion Janniro who did not show up to eat his lunch. From the gate, Janniro out of lane two and Venegas out of lane one were at it. Venegas held to the inside and Janniro worked the inside and outside of the track just ahead of Venegas like only he can. Also, in the mix were Bart Bast out of lane four and Austin Novratil in lane three. Both put in a great effort but the race was really between Janniro and Venegas with Janniro in control and taking the checkered flag. Venegas showing real fire was second, Bast was third and Novratil was fourth.

Daniel Faria who has been absent from the winner’s podium this season showed up with a big win in the handicap main event, his first of the season. Faria, handicapped on the 30 yard line was undefeated in all his handicap races leading to the final. Janniro, who rides off the 60 yard line, had a little trouble working through the lower yardage traffic to tackle Faria who rode a nearly flawlessly race to the finish line. Janniro was second and Bast was third. “It is my first win of the season, we changed all of our setup and everything worked perfect, ” Faria said.

The Extreme Sidecars teams lived up to their name with a great program. Riding four heats, the teams challenged each other in each heat. In a great main event finish that had the crowd on their feet, the team of Joe Jones and Chuck Heider pulled off a near photo finish against the team of Smylie Kinne and Lori Curry. In a late blast to the finish line Kinne and Curry nearly upset Jones and Heider, but fell just short. Kinne and Curry were second, the team of Bryan Motis and Andrew Smith were third and the team of Robert Curry and Eric Hernandez were fourth. The Extreme Sidecars will return to Fast Fridays again on August 4 with their special brand of thrilling speedway racing.

The story this season could be the rise of young Blake Borello. The 16 year old Georgetown resident who just left the junior division behind last season has had one of the fastest accents in memory. Borello, started the season in week four in division III and out of the gate won the division III main event. In week five Borello rides both division III and division II winning the division II main event. From there with his fearless no back down riding style the easy going young Borello is turning heads. This week Borello again got a ride in the division I handicap program making a strong showing, and also winning the division II main event for the fourth time this season. “This is my fifth week on a 500, I really like riding hand to hand with other riders it is a lot more fun, and the best practice is on the track, Borello said. Keep an eye on this kid, he is becoming a very strong up and comer.

Kyle Cunningham picked up the Youth Speedway main event. A strong youth rider Cunningham is no stranger to the winner’s podium. Cunningham was undefeated with wins also in his heat races and this week’s main event marks the second for Cunningham. He has also won the Youth Consolation main event twice. “ I got a good start and cut the inside down and held them off,” Cunningham said. Cameron Krezman was second, Landon Norton third and Dylan Wagner was fourth. Anthony Dion was first in the Youth Consolation main event. Sterling Martin was second, Landon Collins was third and Aidan McNutt was fourth.

Next week the annual North vs. South Civil War Challenge continues at Fast Fridays. For 26 years our best six northern speedway riders and the best Southern Californian speedway riders renew their long standing rivalry. It’s team racing at its best, and one of the most popular season events.
