Costa Mesa Speedway - September 8, 2018

Former Under 21 National Champion Austin “All Throttle” Novratil won the Scratch Main Event and ended Billy Janniro’s main event winning streak at five at the world famous Costa Mesa Speedway.

“Mad” Max Ruml and Janniro started in gates one and two, respectively, and they battled into turn one in the Scratch Main Event. Their tussle took them wide into turn two and Novratil wisely turned back underneath them exiting turn two. His quick thinking paid off as he charged into the lead on the back straight. Max Ruml and Janniro then had to turn their attention toward the leader instead of each other. Max Ruml led the pack trying to catch Novratil but it was to no avail. Novratil cruised to the victory, Max Ruml finished second, Janniro was third, and Gage Geist came home fourth.

Former two-time National Champion Charlie “The Edge” Venegas kicked off the heats with a win over fellow two-time National Champion Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz. Janniro defeated Dillon Ruml in event two. Max Ruml beat Sammy Ramirez in event three. Novratil beat Geist to finish round one.

Round two started with Max Ruml beating Geist for his second straight victory. Dillon Ruml defeated Venegas in the next heat. Novratil won his second race in a row ahead of Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell. Janniro ended the second round by beating Ramirez.

Venegas defeated Schwartz again to open the third round with his second win. Geist scored an impressive win over Janniro, Dillon Ruml, and Novratil in event 19. That victory ended Janniro’s individual race winning streak at 25. Max Ruml beat Ricky Richards in the next heat. Three-time National Champion Chris Manchester closed out the heats by beating “Fast” Eddie Castro.

Janniro was victorious in the first semi with Novratil finishing second to also transfer to the main. Max Ruml and Geist finished one-two in the second semi to move on to the main.

Dillon Ruml defeated three former National Champions in the Scratch Consolation. Venegas finished second, Manchester was third, and Schwartz finished fourth.

Charles Pearson claimed the victory in the Second Division Main Event. David Lynch was second, Sammy Tetrault finished third, and Mike Miller was fourth.

Kyle Cunningham was triumphant in the Junior 250 Main Event. Slater Lightcap finished second, “Gentleman” Jake Isaac finished third, and Andrew Russell was fourth.

Levi Leutz led the Mini 150 Main Event through the first lap. Owen Williams closed ground on the leader on lap two. Williams’s pressure paid off as he took the lead entering turn one the third time. Leutz didn’t fade away but he was unable to retake the lead. Williams led to the finish, Leutz was second, Justin Almon finished third, and Jose Navarrete was fourth.

Robert Curry and Laurie Curry made gate one pay off by grabbing the lead at the start of the Sidecar Main Event. They led through lap one but National Champions Joe Jones and Tom Summers were breathing down their neck. The Curry's left a small opening as they exited turn four the second time and Jones and Summers stormed through the gap and into the lead. The duo never looked back from there and went on to victory. Curry and Curry held on to second, Dillon Osborne and Ashley Gibbons finished third, and James “Smylie” Kinne and Josh Bustos were fourth.
