Big Time Speedway is doin’ it right! Round one of the Golden State Speedway and Flat Track Series was outstanding. One hundred and thirty seven entries rode in forty races this day including speedway, flat track, flat track vintage, the Billy Janniro Challenge that now includes a youth challenge, youth speedway and flat track and quads.

The track was as smooth as glass with many tons of new decomposed granite added to what was already there. Watered and groomed to perfection the riders enjoyed their day of short track racing at California’s, Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area in Rancho Cordova, CA. Riders showed up from all over California to share in the fun.

Big Time Speedway promotes Speedway and Flat Track races both in the spring and fall each year at the Prairie City SVRA park. They have started their spring series each of the last two years at the Placerville Fairgrounds on a grass track that they begin preparing in the winter. The grass track, a community event, draws a great crowd from the community and racers alike.

On this day the pits began to fill when the gates opened at 3:00 p.m. It wasn’t long before the youngsters were running about excited to be at the races. They all knew they would race in four heats in each of the five races of this Big Time Speedway Golden State Series, the same as the Division 1 class.

Sixteen Pro flat track riders entered to win some money in their flat track class and the vintage flat track class put on a show of their own on this DG Cushion track. Bobby Bolin and John Nunes topped the podium in each of these split class races. The Billy Janniro Adult Challenge has always been a favorite at the Big Time events and the youth were excluded. Beginning with this series Big Time Speedway has created a new event for the Youth, the Billy Janniro Youth challenge. The adults run hard knowing there is a hundred dollar bill in Billy’s pocket for the winner. The youth ran just as hard challenging themselves on the course that includes right and left turns, jumps, a little mud here and there and a lot of fun. Janniro paid Warren Tyler for his win in the adult class, Matthew Yapelli and Clark Miller rounded out the podium.

Kristi Bolin showed the boys the fast way around the track in the quad class and her brother, Bobby Bolin went wheel to wheel with Billy Janniro in the Pro Flat Track class. Try as he might, Janniro couldn’t catch Bolin and settled for third behind Brad Flash Miller.

Division one run racing was off the hook at this event with Maxwell and Dillon Ruml from southern California challenging Luke Becker, Billy Janniro, Greg Hooten and the other top Division one riders in attendance. At the end of the Division one main event Max Ruml finished first following wheel to wheel competition with Luke Becker and Greg Hooten. Becker was second, Hooten finished third.

Round two of the Big Time Speedway Golden State Series will take place August 29th. Gates open at 3:00 p.m. Pre registration is available at www.BigTimeSpeedway.com for any riders that did not run in round 1.
