2017 AMA/FIM Youth Silver Cup Championship - Industry Racing, CA, USA - August 13, 2017
Sebastian “Big Daddy” Palmese and Slater Lightcap both turned in flawless performances to win their respective divisions at the AMA/FIM Youth Silver Cup Championship at Industry Racing.
Palmese started in gate one in the Junior 250 Final and led at the outset. Kyle Cunningham, who made the Final without winning a single race all day, was right behind the leader with Anthony Dion and Jake Isaac behind him. Palmese opened a comfortable lead and let his competitors battle for the minor placings. Palmese’s steadily stretched his lead and scored the victory. Cunningham finished second, Anthony Dion was third, and Isaac finished fourth.
The day commenced with Anthony Dion passing Cameron Krezman for the lead and the win. Palmese gave a preview of his day by defeating Sterling Martin. Isaac used the outside to pass and defeat Cunningham and end round one.
Round two started with Sterling Martin beating Krezman for his first win. Landon Norton defeated Greg Moore in the next heat. Palmese trapped from the outside and beat Isaac to finish the second round.
The third round opened with Krezman defeating Timmy Dion. Sterling Martin used the outside to power around Moore for his second straight victory. Isaac beat Anthony Dion to end round three.
The final round of heats began with Krezman making it two wins in a row ahead of Anthony Dion. Isaac scored his third victory by beating Moore. Palmese made it three wins in a row with a victory over Cunningham. The imbalance in the number of racers created an extra heat which Palmese won to remain perfect with Dylan Wagner getting second.
Palmese made it five straight victories in the first semi with Cunningham getting a hard-fought second to join him in the Final. Isaac and Anthony Dion finished one-two in the second semi and transferred to the Final.
The Mini 150 heats began with Jose “Nitro” Navarrete beating Travis Horn. Enzo Sorani beat teammate Colton Nelson in the next heat. Lightcap ended the first round with a win over Andrew Russell.
The second round started with Lightcap beating Sorani for his second straight win. “Lightning” Luke Whitcomb defeated Colton Nelson in the next event. Navarrete beat Horn to end round two with his second win in a row.
Sorani opened round three with a win over Whitcomb. Nelson defeated Levi “Cowboy” Leutz in event 17. Lightcap finished the third round with a victory ahead of Russell.
The fourth round opened with Whitcomb earning his second win and it came at the expense of Horn. Sorani earned his third victory in the penultimate heat with Leutz getting second. Lightcap made it four wins on the trot with a victory ahead of Gordon Teuber III to complete the heats.
Lightcap’s dominant day continued with a victory in the first semi to book his place in the Final. Horn finished second and also moved on to the Final. Sorani won the second semi with Whitcomb getting second to complete the field in the Final.
Lightcap wasn’t about to have his perfect day ruined in the Mini 150 Final. He got the best start and raced off into the sunset to complete his day unblemished. Whitcomb finished second, Horn was third, and Sorani was credited with fourth.
