Big Time Speedway ended their Spring Fling, 3 race series, June 18th at the Prairie City SVRA in Rancho Cordova, CA. The riders were pleased with the modifications made to the track since the 2015 series. The two Steves, Steve Elstins and Steve Stasiefski, did a spectacular job, as usual, with track preparation in spite of torrential rain at the beginning of the spring and a very hot day in the middle of the spring for the CFTA event held at Prairie City. They continue to bring in tons of decomposed granite to maintain this outstanding cushion short track. Both the speedway riders and the flat track riders have grown to know that when they show up at a Big Time event they will have an excellent smooth and well groomed cushion track to ride. With the wider turns and the plastic K-rail around the track it is also one of the safest tracks in northern California to ride. Big Time Speedway is always ‘Doin it right.’
Big Time Speedway/Cody Jawa sponsored rider, Billy Janniro, the 6 time National AMA Speedway Champion, has recently been named to join speedway TEAM U.S.A., competing in the 2016 World Cup in Sweden, July 26th. Along with Janniro, another Big Time Speedway/Lazer Frames sponsored rider, Luke Becker will travel to Sweden as the under 21 reserve rider for Team U.S.A. Both Janniro and Becker ride the Big Time Speedway events at Prairie City. There are big plans for Big Time Speedway coming up in the future including more Billy Janniro speedway clinics (the first will be on July 9th), and the first round of their 2016 Golden State Series is scheduled for July 30th.
New in the 2016 series, the Big Time Speedway junior speedway riders joined forces with Big Time Speedway and the Prairie City OHV park collecting the recycling from various park locations to create a riders fund for the juniors. Each Sunday morning after the races, Speedway Charlie Trana and his dad organize the team to collect and sort cans and bottles in turn earning some money to travel to the races. Only those that participate in the collection process are eligible to receive the travel funds.
The Spring Fling speedway champions included Billy “The Kid” Janniro, “The Farmer (William McCloskey, “Big Daddy” Sebastian Palmese, and “The Captain” Cameron Beck in the adult speedway classes and in the lower classes, Aidan McNutt, “Speedway Charlie” Trana, Sammy “The Bullet” Waddill. Billy Janniro challenge top honors went to Billy Janniro and Cameron Krezman. Gracie Janniro took the Pee Wee championship. Flat track champions included Cameron Krezman, Brad Miller, Jeff Spohr, John Larson and Vaness Kosek.
